What Would Google Do?
The book by Jeff Jarvis. I was a bit underwhelmed, I don’t know what I expected, but there was no big revelation. The first part was largely just an expansion/commentary on Cluetrain Manifesto, a seminal work that’s still relevant after ten years. The second part, trying to reposition industries according to the “Google Model”, was a bit more compelling. But far too often it felt just a book written for money (which the author refers to at several times), an expansion of his blog, rather than an attempt to genuinely try to contribute something to the world.
2012
Went to see the movie. Did not really like it, so I’d give it like 3/10 or so. It’s ok if a movie has some cliché, but if the whole movie is one big cliché, then it becomes disgusting. I liked how the Russian newrich guy was funny/ironically portrayed, and Sasha the airline pilot is played by an Estonian actor. But, I liked “Independence Day” more, so I’ll still have to see Emmerich’s “Day After Tomorrow” that was made between these two movies. On the up side, the CGI is pretty impressive, but there’s so much of it that soon into the movie it loses its effectiveness.
Seriously, Omnigraffle. WTF.
Rubriigist “wtf”. Valele adressaadile meil. Mul küll oli kunagi Wii, kuid müüsin juba ammu maha.
Umm… so?
Windows 7 inconsistency. Control Panel home for a user. Is it “my” or “your”? Make up your mind.
Windows 7 appears much nicer than Windows Vista, but has its glitches. For example: why show an indeterminate progress bar when you actually know the progress (see the copy below)? Could do a determinate progressbar here, no?
I tried out Windows Vista. What a terrible piece of software, having just generally low quality. Kept popping up errors. This is one of the most brilliant ones. I have no idea what this means, why would I care, and what could/should I do about it.
Assassin's Creed on iPhone
A super nice game, if you’re into that kind of genre. Very Prince of Persia-ish, except more sword fights and less weird monsters. I liked that the battles were not too hard on the medium level, even the bosses. Just slam on the sword controls and switch between the “heavy” and “light” attacks for some combos.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Was dragged to see this by some friends at work. Movie itself was silly, but gorgeous 3d, really good experience. The 3d glasses weren’t the usual cardboard nonsense, they were quite comfortable. Now I want to see more 3d cartoons. They had many 3d cartoon trailers before the main event, so I might go to see some more.
